One ramp in 2012.
The same pair of hands today.
JGC exists because James got tired of being told how long a job was allowed to take.
Fourteen years later the business has grown carefully and deliberately: more
equipment, more capability, the same person under your car.
Ursula Gunn-Carter runs the business alongside him — the side of a workshop owners
rarely see, and the reason the rest of it holds together.
- 24 years
- James on Porsche
A degree in automotive engineering, then main-dealer and specialist workshops. The
first ten years of that were before JGC existed, which is the point: the experience
did not start when the sign went up.
- 14 years
- JGC, established 2012
Owner-run from the first day to this one. Over a hundred five-star reviews and a
customer list that is mostly other customers' recommendations.
From 2012 to today.
-
2012
One ramp, one bay
JGC opens with James working alone, mostly on 996 and 986 cars for owners who had been quoted main-dealer money for a coolant tank.
-
2015
Second ramp, factory diagnostics
The first PIWIS subscription, which changes what the workshop can take on. Word starts travelling round the Silverstone and Bicester crowd.
-
2018
Move to the current unit
Room for four cars inside, a proper parts store and an office. Ursula joins full time and the diary stops living in a notebook.
-
2021
The 997.1 GT3 arrives
Bought as a development car. Everything we recommend for track use has since been run on it first.
-
2024
PIWIS 4 and in-house geometry
The current factory system, plus four-wheel alignment and corner-weight scales, so setup work no longer goes out to a third party.
-

Customer portal
Every customer’s records — work history, photographs and invoices — given a proper interface, plus a membership that puts owners on WhatsApp with James.
The two people you will deal with.
James Gunn-Carter
Owner and technician
Automotive engineering degree, factory and specialist training, twenty-four years of water-cooled Porsche. Does the diagnosis, does the work, signs the sheet. If you have spoken to someone about your car here, it was almost certainly him.
Ursula Gunn-Carter
Operations
Runs JGC alongside James, from the diary and parts supply to how the week is scheduled. She decides what the workshop can realistically take on — which is why we are appointment-only, and why your car goes on a ramp the day it arrives.
Two ramps, the right tools,
and a clean floor.
Nothing here is for show. The alignment rig and the corner-weight scales exist
because you cannot set a car up properly without them, and the PIWIS subscription is
renewed because a Porsche without it is guesswork.

Independent means we can spend an hour proving a fault instead of forty minutes guessing
at one, and tell you to keep a part that still has life in it.
Book your Porsche in.
Tell us the model and roughly what is on your mind. We will come back with a date, a
price and how long we will need the car.
If you need a hire car after dropping your vehicle off, we have partnered with
Enterprise — just ask when you book in and we will arrange it for you.
